I have a Medium Sized harp I'd say about 4' tall ... I believe it's made in Pakistan and has 5 Octaves (40 Strings with levers on the machine tuners) ... The strings appear to be Nylon and are color coded red for 'C' strings and Blue at the 'F'
I am new to the harp ... so excuse me if some of my terminology is incorrect.
Anyway, does anyone have any recommendations on where I can get a decent set of strings for a good price?

Re: String Recommendations
Fri, July 29, 2005 - 7:24 AMHave you ever seen or played a Pakistani harp as it comes from the box? They string them with the worst strings possible. Until you restring the harp, it is nearly unplayable.

Mon, August 1, 2005 - 1:57 AMNo, sorry, I haven´t. I built my harp myself and it has wire strings. They are completely different anyway. -

Re: String Recommendations
Mon, August 1, 2005 - 1:37 PMSome of the strings on the harp are broken. It happened when I tried to tune it up to pitch. The harp was bought from a man who had purchased it for his daughter in hoppes that she would learn to play. It sat neglected in his livingroom for nearly a decade. So, the strings were brittle and couldn't hold at pitch.
Therefore, I need to find a replacement set that won't run me into the ground. We have an Irish encampment at Golden Gate this year and I'm hoping to have the Harp as a nice playable showpiece. -

Mon, August 8, 2005 - 3:28 PMOh Fer' #&$@'s sake, man! Why did'nt you just drop me a line? ....No O'neil's supposed to be cavorting with Sweeney's ???? :-)

They have the same Nylon strings that go on every other harp, and they are semi local.
Let me know when you want "premium sythetic gut strings" - Nice!
You will have to know what gauges you have, and then tell them. They are nice folks and might advise you over the phone, even if you don't own one of their harps.....ask for the harp tech's. Also, you are correct to re-string that Pakistani - it the only way to save those things. You'll want to re-string the whole thing.
I will have my Lap Harp by then, and if I go to the SF Faire, I will drop by and play a wee bit, even if yer' an O'neil *lol* :-)))

Re: String Recommendations
Thu, August 11, 2005 - 11:42 PMYou'd be welcomed into the camp as Royalty as would any harpist. It is the respect of our culture is it not?
I think it goes something like: Chieftain, Other Chieftains, Vice Chieftain, Harpists, Baen Tiarna, Personal Confessor, Officers, Seannachies, Singers, Pipers, Whistles, stringed instruments (Mandos, lutes, etc.), Buannacht, Ceathairn, Gallowglas, husbandmen, tenants, women, woodkern and churls.
Did I miss anyone?
Hoping to have the strings in time. Thanks for the link Sweeney!! ;-)
